Presbyopia
Presbyopia is an age-related condition of the eye in which the shape of the lens inside the eye is not as flexible as it used to be, thereby causing difficulty reading or focusing up close. It usually occurs at the age of 40 and above.
Common symptoms include:
difficulty focusing on nearby objects
having difficulty reading small print
eye strain, headache, or fatigue after reading or doing close work such as sewing
needing to hold reading material at arm’s distance
intermittent blurring of vision at distance or at near
We manage presbyopia with prescription glasses, specially designed reading glasses, and special contact lenses called multifocal contact lenses which allow the wearer to be able to see clearly at all distances.
