Astigmatism is a condition of the eye in which vision at all distances is blurry or distorted.

Common symptoms include:

  • squinting

  • tilting the head

  • headaches

  • blurry vision

  • eyestrain

Astigmatism occurs when the cornea, the transparent and clear cover of the eye, is shaped irregularly, or because of the curvature of the crystalline lens inside the eye. If left uncorrected, it may cause eye strain, lazy eye (or amblyopia), or a decrease in the quality of life especially because of poor vision.

We manage astigmatism with prescription glasses and contact lenses. Those with especially high amounts of astigmatism sometimes needs customized contact lenses to provide better vision.
