Cataract is a clouding of the crystalline lens inside the eye which often leads to foggy or poor vision. In the Philippines, cataract is one of the leading causes of preventable blindness.

Common symptoms include:

  • Cloudy or foggy vision

  • Sensitivity to light and glare, or “silaw”

  • Seeing halos around lights

  • Fading of colors or seeing yellowish

  • More difficulty seeing at night time

Cataract usually affects people 60 years or older, but in some cases, especially for those with systemic conditions such as diabetes, cataracts may form earlier. Anyone can get cataracts.

While some cataracts may not need treatment, others will need surgery to remove them. The best way to find out if you have them is to have your eyes checked, especially if you notice that your vision has changed. We perform cataract screening and advise our patients on the next course of action based on the examination results.
